How it works
What is CraftAble?
CraftAble turns the work of artists with disabilities into clothing and other products. The artist is credited by name and compensated for the work.
Who can take part?
Artists with disabilities, in any country. An artist can come to us directly, through their family, or through an association, school or care institution that supports them. No design training is needed. If the work is original, we can talk.
What happens to the artwork?
There are two ways to work together. We agree on one before anything is made, with each artist or with the group they work in, such as an association or a club:
- We acquire the work and its rights. The artist is compensated for the piece.
- We license the work. The artist keeps ownership, and we have the right to use it on our products.
How are artists compensated?
Each partnership is agreed case by case. In many countries, any income can affect the benefits a person with a disability receives. So before anything is signed, we look at the artist’s situation and the rules where they live, and we agree a form of compensation that follows those rules and does not put their support at risk. Compensation can take different forms, agreed with each artist.
What do you make?
Clothing first, and other products that carry the work well. We choose the product to suit the art, not the other way round.
Who handles production and sales?
We do. We adapt the work for print, and we take care of production, sales and the paperwork. The artist’s part is the art.
How do we start?
Write to hello@craftable.art. Tell us who you are, where you are, and send a few images of the work. If you represent an association, tell us about the artists you support.
